Our Chief Pharmacist: Marie Ekpema, PharmD
Dr. Marie Ekpema
Summerwood Pharmacy is operated under the leadership of Dr. Marie Ekpema. She earned her doctorate degree in Pharmacy from Xavier University College of Pharmacy and has advanced training in medication therapy management, personalized medication compounding, diabetes management, nutritional consultations, bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, and is currently working on her fellowship in functional medicine. Dr. Ekpema is the founder of the Collaborative Women’s Program through which physicians partner with her to help patients achieve positive outcomes through bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. She also specializes in offering patients unique solutions through micronutrient replacement. She has served as a preceptor and mentor for high school and pharmacy school students in the Houston and surrounding area for many years.
As an integrative, holistic and clinical pharmacist, Dr. Ekpema has a wellness approach to patient care and believes that we can truly thrive if we give our bodies the right nutrients. She possesses years of experience in retail, compounding, hospital pharmacy, clinical trials, as well as working as a consultant pharmacist. She has held several leadership positions in the pharmacy profession, and participated in philanthropic and humanitarian initiatives both in Houston and around the world.
Dr. Ekpema is an active member of the Texas pharmacy association, National community pharmacist association, Lake Houston chamber of commerce, Texas Association of Independent Pharmacy Owners, and several philanthropic organizations. She is a regular speaker at school, faith based events, community, health care professional initiatives, and volunteers as an instructor at Lone Star College’s Academy for Life Long Learning. Her passion is maximizing the collaborative efforts between the physician, patient, and pharmacist to create the perfect triad.
Dr. Ekpema is passionate about introducing her years of extensive training and experience in the safe combination of a truly healthy and clean diet along with targeted and effective supplementation and prescription medications when needed.
